Virtual Marriage Counseling
THERAPY FOR MARRIED COUPLES
Counselling to Build a Stronger Marriage
As a Glendora, California Licensed Therapist, I began my Marriage and Family Psychotherapy practice out of a desire to use my life experience, education, and passion to help serve the health needs of my community and the surrounding cities.
“Through my experience in a variety of settings, I have discovered that building a supportive relationship through therapy creates a safe place to explore life struggles, understand difficult issues, learn new skills, enrich relationships, and work through situations in order to lead a more authentic life.
Creating a safe and supportive environment, where you can feel comfortable, is essential to my practice. In that setting, I can collaborate on how best to understand your situation, identify your goals, and find solutions.” –Ilissa Banhazl, MFT
I bring a varied theoretical approach, centered on forms of therapy including psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral, brief/solution focused, and ensuring sensitivity to cultural diversity.
Basic Principles of Marriage Counseling
Before the relationships between the married couple can begin to be understood, it is important for all to recognize and acknowledge that everyone involved has a unique personality, perception, set of values and history. Sometimes the individuals in the marriage adhere to different value systems. Institutional and societal variables (like the social, religious, group and other collective factors) which shape a person’s nature, and behavior must be recognized. A tenet of marriage counseling is that it is intrinsically beneficial for all the participants to interact with each other and with society at large with the least conflict possible. And where conflict arises as inevitably it does, to manage those conflicts consciously.
Most marriages will get strained at some time, resulting in their not functioning optimally and producing self-reinforcing, maladaptive patterns. These patterns may be called negative interaction cycles. There are many possible reasons for this, including insecure attachment, ego, arrogance, jealousy, anger, greed, poor communication/understanding or problem solving, ill health, third parties and so on.
Changes in situations like financial state, physical health, and the influence of other family members can have a profound influence on the conduct, responses and actions of the individuals in a marriage.
Virtual Marriage Counseling with experienced Glendora, California Marriage and Family Therapist Ilissa Banhazl offers a safe space for married couples to address issues, resolve conflicts, and find a path to healing and restoring their marriage.
With the right therapist, marriage counseling can help your marriage thrive and grow. A common misconception many people have is that marriage counseling is only meant for couples wanting to save their marriage. Marriage counseling is a proactive way to strengthen bodns, reconnect and grow whatever the current status of your relationship. –Ilissa Banhazl, MFT
